Fraternity & Sorority Life Parent Orientation Sessions Fraternity & Sorority Life offers three Parent Orientation sessions for those with students joining the fraternity & sorority community at Iowa. There are two sessions to help accomodate move-in schedules. All sessions will take place in the Illinois Room in the Iowa Memorial Union at 3:00pm. Please feel free to attend one of the following programs. Wednesday, August 15th Thursday, August 16th Friday, August 17th
Recruitment Recruitment is hosted by the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and the Panhellenic Council (PHC) and each takes place early in the Fall semester (Fraternity Recruitment - September 2-7, 2012; Sorority Recruitment - August 23 - September 3, 2012). It is a great way for prospective members to visit each our 17 NIC fraternities or 14 NPC sororities at once, as well as a chance to form a network of close friends within a few days of arriving on campus.
Membership intake is the membership selection process conducted by Iowa's historically Black, Latino/a and Asian Greek-letter organizations, which are governed by either the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) or Multicultural Greek Council (MGC). Early in the fall semester, the NPHC and MGC fraternities and sororities represented on campus present information about their individual chapters for prospective members. Each chapter will not begin its actual membership intake process until later in the academic year, as NPHC and MGC affiliated fraternities and sororities typically do not accept a student for membership until the student has completed at least 12-24 hours of college credit with a minimum GPA. Please talk with the chapter(s) you are interested in for full details about their requirements.
NPHC and MGC chapters embrace a lifetime commitment philosophy and aim to assure the continuance of academic achievement, political awareness, and community service. We strongly encourage those interested in the Membership Intake process to attend the Meet the Greeks event sponsored by NPHC and MGC on Thursday, September 6, 2012, Illinois Room, from 7pm - 9pm. |
